“Gentle breeze of summer evening” (“Suvi-illan vieno tuuli”), Eino Leino

Eino Leino 1908

Gentle breeze of summer evening
over fell is sighing,
and upon the forest silver
light of moon is lying.

Quivers lonely pine in silence,
far-off cuckoo’s calling,
dumbstruck paces now the wanderer,
sorrow’s sleep is falling.

Suvi-illan vieno tuuli
huokaa vuoren alta,
hongikon polkua hopeoipi
kuuhut taivahalta.

Hiljaa huojuu korven honka,
kaukana käkö kukkuu,
vaieten astuvi vaeltaja,
mielen murhe nukkuu.
